If you grew up in the 50’s, you probably had a parent who smoked. Smoking was cool in the 50’s. There was no societal stigma to doing it- except for teenagers- which, of course made it irresistible. The brand of cigarette you smoked made a statement about you. Some brands were no-nonsense and some were sophisticated. My mother didn’t smoke but my Dad smoked Kools. When I started looking for Christmas from the 50’s, I discovered these TV ads. I had completely forgotten how socially acceptable cigarettes were in the 50’s. Of course, you would give all your smoking friends cigarettes for Christmas.

And this one from Camel.
