Part of the top ten
Let’s give I up for the Frisbee- one of the top toys from the 50’s! Eveybody knows about frisbees. Everybody has thrown one. But not everyone knows that the frisbee is a legacy from the glorious 50’s. The design was a simple adaptation from pie and cake pans which were discovered to have aerodynamic properties. A few tweaks and the use of plastic instead of metal created a marketing tour de force.
Another Wham-O product
The Wham-O company bought the product and remaned it. Wham-O demonstrated their genious at finding and marketing simple products from the 50’s on. The frisbee was one of their mot successful products which is still popular 50 years later.
The Frisbee , originally known as the Pluto Platter hit it big in the late 50’s. This plastic flying disc provided a new way to have fun outdoors with a toy that couldn’t hurt you. Wham-O didn’t create the Frisbee but they did give it the name we all know and modify the design over the years to improve its flight characterless.
It wasn’t dangerous as sold, but OddJob did a pretty good job of turning it into a weapon. (name that movie…without looking it up)
Bob,
Goldfinger, of course. I preferred Pussy Galore myself.
It is kinda fun to see people “re-discover” the Frisbee as a dog toy or even playing Frisbee golf.
Give a group of people a Frisbee and there is no way to not start throwing it and having fun.
