No original thinking here.
If I had to rename my blog while trying to give it a descriptive name, I would choose ‘Borrowed Wisdom” I do hope that wisdom is part of this blog but I do know that the wisdom I possess was produced by others. I merely borrow it and pass it along to my readers. I have never had an original thought in my life. My mission is to find wisdom anywhere I can. Sometimes I am aware of the source and in those cases I am happy make the attribution. Most of the time, however, I either can’t remember where I found the thought or worse tell myself that I originated it. It is great that those ideas pop into my head and they are a great help in running my life and my business but after long experience I always discover that the ideas predate me and someone else deserves credit.
Sharing is good
If I deserve credit for anything, it is the filtering of information and winnowing out the good ideas from the less good. I know I don’t get that 100% right but I think my instincts are pretty good at telling the difference. Sometimes it takes me a while to get things right but when I do, my mission is to share my discovery hoping to save someone else from having to do it.
What I’ve borrowed lately
I love it when someone saves me the trouble of discovering something. Like Dave Doolin advising me to start using Google Docs to simplify my management of information on multiple computers. And Carlos telling me how to get back in the good graces of CommentLuv.
What have you borrowed?
What wisdom have you borrowed lately? Who has saved you time and trouble and deserves your appreciation for making life simpler? Use the comments to give them credit.
That’s a terrific idea from Dave about using Google docs. It’s always nice to be able to use someone else’s storage.

I’m forever borrowing things lol. College; whatever people are asking me about, I usually file away to become a blog post.
Blogging techniques; I’ve borrowed from Dave, James, Allyn, and Nathan at times – any and all are great for advice.
There are some things that are purely my own, and I try to change whatever I’m asked/shown so that its unique and new, but as they say ‘No man is an island’.

Any sort of wisdom is always passed on between people. The way I look at it, wisdom is like clothing. Anyone can wear any sort of clothes but how do you present yourself with them? Do you throw on some cologne to tickle the senses or do you tuck your shirt in? It is how your clothing is worn is how you are perceived. How this relates to wisdom is someone can share a bit of wisdom that you already know but apply it in a way that blows your mind away (that adds some originality to shared wisdom).
Excellent post man.

Ray,
Dave is the man!
Heather,
I know what you mean. I try to be unique but I always find out that I am imitating someone whether i mean to or not.
Ryan,
An Excellant point. Good information can be used (worn) badly like your clothes example.
I am borrowing too much. But I think it’s important to borrow stuff from other people. If you borrow stuff though I think it’s essential to show your appreciation and link to the source in return. It’s the least what you can do. Thanks Ralph!

Julius,
What you say is true. It is good to credit when you can. Part of the problem is that I can’t remember where things come from.
Hi Ralph, this just came through as a trackback, of all things. So, thanks!
I probably haven’t had an original thought either, although I like to think I have.
Dave,
I was revisitng old posts, editing and seeing if some of the material could be incoriporated into new content. Apparently when you edit and save, it repings. Who knew?
