Our deepest fear is not that we are
inadequate, our deepest fear is that we
are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that
most frightens us. We ask ourselves,
“Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?” Actually, who
are you NOT to be?
You are a child of God, Your playing
small does NOT serve the world. There
is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure
around you.
We were born to manifest the glory
that is within us. And as we let our
light shine we unconsciously give other
people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own
fear, our presence automatically
liberates others.
I didn’t know Marianne Williamson until I found that quote in a book I am reading. It hit me like a sledgehammer. I am no church goer and God is not on my phone’s speed dial but I do know that my life has no meaning unless I exist in this world as part of a greater plan. If it is all over (for me) when I die then what I do now doesn’t matter. And if there is a greater plan from God then being part of that plan means that I have resources I can’t begin to understand and a responsibility to use them unashamedly.
If you believe that you are nothing but a random occurrence then I believe that you have no reason shine but if you believe that you exist as part of a grand plan, it is your obligation to shine like a star. I have denied myself and shirked my role for much of my life but it is never too late to start living fully committed to using my full power and potential.
