It is Friday and I’ve been playing most of the week. We have been saying we want to visit LA and see our older son for several months now. Well, it wasn’t happening so I looked at the schedule and committed the time, made the reservations and let life happen. I got committed and created blog posts for three blogs all except for Friday, the day we get back. It is either put something together Friday morning or do it now so this is it.
This is a practical exercise in retirement management. I want to do some traveling. I need to work on my business activities. If I make decisions on a day to day basis, I never get the fun scheduled. If I never get the fun scheduled then I don’t practice what I preach about retirement, so here I am, a living example.
We are going to enjoy seeing our son and visiting our old places in LA for three days. It would never happen if I didn’t make a commitment last month. It resulted in some stress and this poor excuse for a blog post but believe me, everything will be better in the long run. If this is making your think about doing some things that you want to do but never make the time for, then wake up and decide to do it. And leave a comment. What have you been missing that you are going to do now?
Great post, Ralph! I think it is important to schedule fun and relaxation because they are essential to good health and your overall quality of life. Lately I’ve been scheduling time for meditation, something I’ve always wanted to do but put off as not being able to fit it into my day. It’s really helped me feel healthier and more relaxed and is also good for my brain.
Thanks, Joan
I find that if I don’t schedule things they just don’t happen. Who would think that you have to make time for fun?
