What whining means.
Whining is a symptom of a retirement lifestyle gone off track. Or a working lifestyle, for that matter. It is a sign that your life plan is failing. Don’t be confused because everybody you know is whining. Whining is a way of life for most people; a badge of honor about putting up with life’s obstacles and a bonding agent for losers. Don’t just join this chorus of whiners. Recognize that whining is telling the world that you have submitted. You have accepted that you will be bound by somebody else’s rules and constraints. You have given up control of your retirment lifestyle. You have rolled over and said uncle to life. You don’t matter.
Are you part of the background?
If your life is on automatic pilot whether you are working or retired, you are only part of the background. It’s not necessarilly a bad place to be. It not necessarilly a good place to be. But in the end, it is only the background. Somebody else is in the foreground. Somebody else is the star. If you can say that you have no complaints – and mean it then you are doing the right things in the right place. AND….
You can stop reading right now.
You want more?
If you are still here, then it must mean that somewhere in your soul lurks the thought that you are meant to be something more than part of the scenery. That suggests that you know you have untapped strength, talent and passion that you have constrained into normal life. So I ask you what are you doing to free yourself from normal?
If the answer is nothing…….
Ask yourself these questions.
Are you working your plan?
Do you love your plan?
Is your plan truly an evil plan?
Do you even have a plan?
If you anseer no to any of these questions then….
STOP WHINING!
And create an evil plan for world domination.
And there is SO much whining out there! Especially politically and economically. I wonder if that goes along with our bourgeoning sense of entitlement. As in, “I/we are entitled to a happy and comfortable retirement just because I/we have reached the age of 62.” As if planning from Day One is something that The Powers That Be should taken care of (e.g. Social Security, Medicare).
My guess is that the Whiners tend to be a passive kind of person (thanks to TV, movies, video games?) who has been conditioned to EXPECT good things to happen simply because he/she “deserve” them.
Maybe I’m overreacting, but I do believe that good things come to those who refuse to stay down when they’ve taken a fall.
Banjo Steve,
And keep on trying ‘impossible’ things and falling down even more. But you are right. They keep on getting up.
Quite inspiring Ralph, thanks for this post.
I think I’m a silent whiner, I do it all inside my head. It’s not a pleasant frame of mind however. So I’m going to stop this whining and go for world domination, (have you got a spare plan I could copy)?

John,
I have a confession. I haven’t got an original idea in my head. I’m wrapping my head around my own evil plan and this post is just the first of three. The author of the evil plan deserved the credit and he will be revealed along the way. BTW, I’m a silent whiner too but it no longer satisfies.
