Well, its that time again, February ended and now I can review the blog stats. When the stats are up dramatically like they were for January, it’s easy to decide that you have finally turned the corner and that you are on the road to becoming a successful blogger. Despite the euphoria, however life moves on.
Stats are down.
This month the stats are down from last month with one exception. Returning readers went up from 14 to 15. I have always said that I regard returning visitors to be the most important stat so I should be happy. Before last month, there is no question that I would be jumping up and down with excitement. I was hoping to see the trend continue. Reality tells me that it was not a trend but merely a jump and jumps tell a different story from trends. Something happened in January to boost my stats but whatever it was didn’t create a trend, just a boost. Falling back a bit suggests that the blog quality can support the higher number of visitors.
My Alexa score dropped from 275,832 to 226,942 and Google still refuses to give me a page rank.
I don’t know what to do other than put my shoulder into the Dip and push on for March. There is no indication that I am on the wrong path just as there is no sign that I have turned the corner either.
There are lies, dam lies and statistics.

Bill,
It’s true that most of the numbers in the news are either wrong, misstated or lies. I know that these numbers are consistent from month to month in the way they are collected. Therefore they accurately report. That still leaves me unable to explain what they mean in terms of reader response.
They measure something and measuring gives me some sense of managing my effort. In the end, however they don’t tell you what to do.
