The Cool 60’s and the Jaguar XKE-unsurpassed beauty

In the 50’s England as viewed from the States was a quaint old country with strange accents, rigid social classes including a Queen, odd humor and a lot of literature that for some reason we needed to read. With the 60’s all that changed. England was happening. We learned to love James Bond, Mary Quant, Hardy Amies, Twiggy and some eclectic musical group named after a German car. England was swinging.

The first time I saw an XKE (What we call it in the states) on the streets of Chicago while in college, I was smitten. It was the most beautiful car I had ever seen. It was so elegant and yet racy. One look and you knew that it wanted to run. It became my life’s goal to earn enough money to buy one. Alas, it was never to be but the sight of an XKE never fails to bring my heart to my throat. I still have that schoolboy enfatuation even after all these years. The beauty of the XKE has never been rivaled even though I have been known to get faint in the knees over the Lamborghini Countach. Part of the charm of the XKE is that I could believe that I could own and drive one. I would look silly in an Italian supercar but not in an XKE.

After all these years, the XKE is still a knockout with no rival in sight.  It is even part of the MOMA collection for any art snobs reading this. If you want more detail about the XKE check here.
