Sarah has an interesting take on what being American means. Being Portuguese by birth and becoming (and appreciating how different it is in the process) an American by choice allows her to understand and explain how different we are. Just like fish may have difficulty understanding life above water, Americans assume that non-Americans are like us with superficial differences and can be easily duped into believing that pandering to the internationalists will create a better new world and not destroy the pretty good one we have. Still she still finds encouragement that , again, America may save the world from itself.
